The goal was to add meaningful overhead shade and a strong architectural feature above an existing outdoor BBQ island without letting a conventional post layout dictate the cooking area. The design had to respond to the site's established hardscape and preserve comfortable circulation around the island.
A cantilevered configuration still depends on deliberate structural support. SAE Builders planned the framing, connections, steel post, and deep concrete footings as a coordinated system so loads could transfer into the foundation while the projecting wood structure retained an open appearance.

The Finished Project
The completed pergola sits naturally over the outdoor cooking area, using its projecting wood frame to add shade and a clear architectural focal point. The finished appearance reflects visible wood craftsmanship; the steel support, deep footings, pre-stained cut ends, and planned connections reflect the equally important work that is less visible in completed photographs.
