At our J-Bar Ranch home in Menifee, we designed these two custom wood patio covers to make the most of the outdoor space—creating comfortable, functional areas for cooking, dining and relaxing.
A gable-roof cover defines one gathering zone while a larger shed-roof cover shelters the BBQ area, bringing shade, durability and a cohesive handcrafted look to the property.
The Gable Cover
15′ × 13′6″
A timeless gable form creates an inviting hub for gathering.
The structure uses 6×6 posts, double 2×8 headers, 2×6 rafters spaced 24 inches on center, 2×8 fascia and 2×4 purlins beneath heavy corrugated roofing—open, expressive framing that adds shade and architectural character.

The Shed-Roof Cover
20′ × 17′
The clean single-slope profile creates broad coverage for the BBQ and prep area while keeping sightlines open.
The same heavy timber system and corrugated roofing connect it visually to the gable cover, forming a practical open-air room built for everyday use.

Built Right, Down to the Details
Pre-stained framing · Lumber received two coats before assembly, helping protect surfaces that become difficult to reach later.
Neat, countersunk braces · Connections were carefully recessed without notching the posts, keeping the framing clean and strong.
Solid concrete footings · Approximate 24×24×24-inch footings support the structures, with an angled broom finish adding durable texture underfoot. Every field-cut wood end was stained and sealed.
